Changes to your card information stored with Google

Due to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) card storage regulations, starting October 1, 2022, Google can no longer save customer card details for accounts whose billing address is in India (card number, expiry date, etc.) in the current format. However, with your authorization, we can save your card details in a format that complies with the new RBI regulations and keeps your sensitive card details secure.

If you’re using Visa or Mastercard, you only need to make one manual payment using your existing card details to authorize us to save your card in the new format. To avoid having to enter your card details again later, it’s recommended that you make this single manual payment before September 30, 2022.

In the unlikely event that we’re unable to save your Visa or Mastercard in a compliant format by September 30, 2022, you’ll need to re-enter your card information every time you make payments later.

If you’re using RuPay, American Express, Discover, or Diners Card, we will no longer store your card information after September 30, 2022 as card storage as per the new format is not supported for these card networks yet.

Starting October 1, 2022, American Express, Diners, and Discover cards will not be supported for payments on Google Ads. RuPay cards will continue to be supported but you’ll have to enter your RuPay card details every time you make a payment.

FAQs

How do I remove my cards from Google Ads account?

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click the tools icon Google Ads | tools [Icon], and then under “Billing”, click Summary.
  3. Click Payment methods, then click Remove to remove your card.

To make new payments, you must enter your card information again.

Will I find my saved cards in “Payment methods” after September 30, 2022?

We will remove any debit and credit card saved on Google Platform unless you authorize us to save your cards in an RBI-compliant format by September 30, 2022.

If your cards are removed, you will have to re-enter the card information when you want to make a manual payment starting from October 1, 2022.

How can I authorize Google to save my card in the RBI-compliant format?

If you’re using Visa or Mastercard, you only need to make one manual payment using your existing card details to authorize us to save your card in the new format.

RuPay, American Express, Discover, and Diners Card can’t be saved in the new format at present.

Can I still provide authorization to Google after September 30, 2022?

Yes, you can, as long as you are using Visa or Mastercard. Note that if you don’t make a manual payment using your existing Visa or Mastercard by September 30, 2022, your card will be removed. After this date, you will need to re-enter your card information when you make a payment in order to provide us the authorization.

Will my recurring payments be impacted after September 30, 2022?

Your recurring payments should not be impacted if you have set up an e-mandate on your credit card. Please follow these instructions to set up the e-mandate.
In a rare case in which your card issuer does not support an e-mandate that is encrypted in a compliant format by September 30th, your recurring payments may fail and your ads may stop serving. We recommend that you add a new primary payment method that’s compliant with RBI regulation, or continue to make manual payments for your outstanding balance to keep your ads running.
