Pause or resume your ads

Why you may want to pause your ads

Once your ads are up and running, there may come a time when you want to stop them. For example, if you’re running an ad for wool coats in the U.S., you probably don’t need that ad to run in the summer. Come autumn, however, you might want the ad up and running again.

By pausing your ad, you can save the ad for later without having to rewrite it and send it through review again.

Instructions

Pause or resume a single ad

  1. In your Google Ads account, on the page menu, select Ads & assets.
  2. Select the green dot next to the ad you’d like to pause.
  3. From the menu, select Pause to pause your ad or Enable to resume your ad.

Pause or resume multiple ads

  1. In your Google Ads account, on the page menu, select Ads & assets.
  2. Select the checkboxes next to the ads that you want to pause or resume.
  3. At the top of the table, select Edit.
  4. From the menu, select Pause to pause your ad or Enable to resume your ad. From this drop-down you also have the following options:
    • Remove your ads altogether. Learn more.
    • Select Change text ads to replace the details of several ads with a single headline, description, and landing page.

Keep in mind

You're in control of your ads. You can pause your ads for any period of time that you'd like, and you can resume your ads when you want. Your ads won't accrue charges while they're paused.

Tip

Try using automated rules to pause or resume ads that meet specific conditions such as special ads for a promotional event — this can help you free up your time. Learn more.
